Grace Hmong Alliance Church (GHAC) was established in August 1980.

Elmbrook Church assisted the congregation, and shortly afterward a church building at 24th and Scott was made available for its use. During this time, Rev. Paaj Ntxawg Tsab moved away. Hmong Christians from Joliet and Dixon, Illinois, relocated to Milwaukee, and some joined the congregation. The church grew to nearly 60 families.

Rev. Txooj Suav Yaaj became pastor. The church began organizing Men’s, Women’s, and Youth ministries according to the C&MA structure.

The church began publishing the “Lub Moo Zoo” (Good News) newsletter to share the Gospel with Christians and those who had not yet believed. Publication ended in 1988.

Elmbrook Church donated the church building to the congregation with the provision that the Lao community would also be allowed to use it.

The church welcomed Rev. Num Tuam Vaaj and his family to serve as pastor. That year, the church began a Gospel radio ministry in Milwaukee. During the same period, Rev. Txooj Suav Yaaj and three or four elders departed to establish New Life Hmong Alliance Church.

Because the congregation had grown beyond the capacity of its building, the church agreed to seek a larger facility with adequate parking. The Governing Board formed a Building Search Committee to prepare for the purchase of a new church.

Rev. Num Tuam Vaaj and his family moved to serve a church in Georgia. In July, Rev. Ntxoov Xeeb Yaaj became Senior Pastor and served until October 1994. In November, the Hmong District sent him to study the Bible in Denver, Colorado.

Rev. Tswv Ntaaj Koo and his family came to serve as Assistant Pastor. He served until 1999, when he moved to serve a church in Seattle, Washington.

The church welcomed Eley Muas to serve as Youth Pastor for approximately one year.

Rev. Ntxoov Xeeb Yaaj returned as Senior Pastor and served through June 2006.

The church purchased the former St. Lawrence church at 2604 W. Orchard Street for $990,000 plus closing costs. Soon afterward, Rev. Nchaiv Tuam Hawj joined the church as Assistant Pastor and served until 2001. The Governing Board also formed a School Planning Committee to explore establishing a school.

The church welcomed Nchaiv Teeb Xyooj as Youth Pastor in 2001, while Rev. Nchaiv Tuam Hawj and his family returned to Kansas. Nchaiv Teeb served the youth until March 15, 2010, when he left to pursue further biblical studies.

Rev. Nkaajlev Vaaj began serving as Assistant Pastor on February 1, 2002, and was installed on February 3. In 2009, the church appointed him as Care Pastor, and he continued serving the congregation.

The Milwaukee Public Schools Board of Education authorized the church’s Hmong American Peace Academy, Ltd. as a charter school. The school opened in September 2004. By August 2010, it had outgrown the available space and moved out of the church building.

After Rev. Ntxoov Xeeb Yaaj retired at the end of June, the church called Rev. Vaam Choj Lis as Senior Pastor. He served from August 2006 through December 31, 2016—a total of ten years and five months.

The church sought a pastor to lead its Disciplemaking Ministry and called Tseeb (Jay) Vaaj to that role. He served in disciplemaking from January 1, 2009, through December 31, 2010.

David Vaaj began serving as Youth Pastor on April 21, 2010, succeeding Nchaiv Teeb, and was installed on May 23, 2010. He served until February 28, 2018, when he stepped down to continue his education.

On February 16, the church agreed to relocate if a buyer could be found for the existing church property.

On June 4, the church sold its building and began searching for a new home. During the transition, worship was held first at New Life Hmong Alliance Church, 2330 W. Scott Street, for five Sundays from June 8 through July 6. Beginning the second week of July 2014, services moved to Hmong American Peace Academy at 4601 N. 84th Street, where the congregation worshiped through January 21, 2018.

The church licensed Andrew Cha to serve as Assistant Youth Pastor through the end of 2016.

The church purchased its present building at 4400 N. Mayfair Road in Wauwatosa for $1,900,000. The congregation moved from HAPA and held its first worship service there on January 28, 2018.

We thank God for faithfully leading the church and providing this place for worship and ministry. Three years and seven months passed between the sale of the former church and the purchase of this new home.

We thank God for fulfilling His promise to remain with His church. By His provision, the congregation became debt-free and could direct future resources toward additional ministry.

A celebration was held on September 21, 2024, to praise and thank God for helping the church pay off the building.
